Police Colonel Étienne Citegetse, former commander of the Traffic Security Police (PSR), was transferred to prison on Sunday after spending the entire weekend in the cells of the National Intelligence Service (SNR).
The location of his detention has not yet been specified.He is part of at least four PSR officers arrested on Friday in Bujumbura, Burundi's economic capital, as part of an investigation into suspicions of corruption in the issuance of driver's licenses.In addition, another police officer is being held in the same city.
He is suspected of having received bribes in exchange for the return of motorcycles seized by the police.
