FIZI - UVIRA: Lulimba and Uvira under high tension
The security situation is dangerously deteriorating on the southern front.
Lulimba under direct threat from the FRN
According to our information from the Fizi front, the strategic town of Lulimba is under imminent threat, following the fall of the villages of Abangya and Elekya, in the Lulenge sector, Fizi territory.
According to local sources, the elements of the Front for National Refoundation (FRN) would only need to climb the escarpments of Mount Mitumba at Elende n'Ebukala to seize Lulimba, located just 12 km from Misisi.
A strategic crossroads
Lulimba is not an ordinary town. It lies at the strategic bifurcation between RN5, which leads to Bendera to reach Kalemie, and the road leading to Kindu.
It is the logistical hub between Tanganyika, Maniema, and South Kivu.
With the potential fall of Lulimba, all the weapons and ammunition of the FARDC located in Baraka will have difficulty being evacuated, as the supply route between South Kivu and Tanganyika (ex-Katanga) will be cut. Loyalist forces risk being cut off.
